Jackson County Schools
Jackson County is home to three school districts located in the southern, central and northern county areas. Students earn a quality public education while enjoying smaller class sizes. Jackson County also houses a Regional Learning Center for Highland Community College located in Holton. There are also two pre-school programs, Lollipop Lane Preschool and the NEK-Cap Headstart Program, both located in Holton.
In addition, all Jackson County school districts participate in the Kaw Area Technical School's consortium. Kaw Area Technical Schoool, located in Topeka, Kansas, (http://www.kats.tec.ks.us) provides career training programs, continuing education classes and day computer classes.

Holton High School is home to the Elk Creek Observatory (founded in 2000) – the only school-owned observatory in the world! It is equipped with an RC Optical Systems 20" f/8.1 telescope.

The Banner Crreek Science Center will soon be a significant expansion thereof. The BCSC committee is in the process of raising $ 4.5 million in order to construct a 17,000 square foot facility to house the existing observatory and the new labs and classrooms which will be a part of the new science center. It’s the goal of this all-new replacement center to be an extension of the classroom, providing meaningful learning experiences – for children and adults – that can not be duplicated in a classroom.
Imagination, inspiration and an over-riding respect for nature will be the foundation of this powerful new educational curriculum. Visit www.bannercreek.org today to discover how you help build this new learning center!
